Solution: 

Recall that the relationship between Celcius and Fahrenheit is described in the equation, 

Since Celcius(C) is equal to Fahrenheit(F), we can say that F=C. By substitution, 

Therefore, -40 degrees Celcius is equal to -40 degrees Fahrenheit.
